In the exclusive setting of the Aurora Museum, Alcantara took its first steps in the Chinese art world with the original “After Chandigarh” project by Taiwanese artist Michael Lin, endorsed by the Italian Consulate. Known for his monumental paintings that alter the public space and the boundary between painting and architecture, the artist reconceptualised and reconfigured the museum's Chandelier Hall with a "pictorial" installation in Alcantara. The inspiration for the project came from the urban plan of the Indian city of Chandigarh and the construction of the Capital Building in the Punjab designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s. A parallel drawn between the India of this period and contemporary China in the form of a refined and unconventional work: a large-scale canvas which, thanks to its bright colours and Alcantara, used for the first time as a "pictorial instrument", alters visitors' perception of the museum space.
Los Angeles, November
The International Auto Show, held in the heart of Los Angeles, was the backdrop for Alcantara Lifestyle, an exclusive event designed to celebrate the many different sides to Alcantara, as well as its ability to transform into an infinite number of stunning creations in various fields of application. The evening took place in the former cathedral church of Santa Vibiana, a well-known location in Los Angeles's fashion district, where people from the industry, designers and the international press were able to experience and appreciate the different dimensions of Alcantara in the flesh. In particular, Alcantara's fashion dimension was exalted with the runway show of the Alcantara collection designed and produced by Yohji Yamamoto for Y’s, while the automotive sector was represented by the two Lamborghini cars, the Huracan LP 610-4 and Aventador LP 700-4, the design and interior segment by a number of pieces of Ligne Roset furniture, and the hi-tech area by the stunning Leica cameras with Alcantara cases. Each of these partners showcased Alcantara with a high-impact installation.
Alcantara organized and promoted the international symposium titled “Sustainability and the new automotive value chain” together with the Venice International University (VIU) and with the support of Center for Automotive and Mobility Innovation (CAMI) from Ca’ Foscari University as scientific advisor. In the prestigious seat of the Venice International University, world-leading academic experts, car industry representatives and NGOs – all speakers of international status – debated around the topic of how Sustainability is affecting and will affect the business model of global automotive industry and, as a consequence, its “value chain”, at the aim of defining new perspectives in terms of customer orientation, business models, measuring indicators and, of course, industrial policy.
Alcantara, as much a key player in automotive as in fashion industry, has confirmed itself as the protagonist and main partner of the Cars & Fashion Exhibition at Le Mondial de l’Automobile 2014 in Paris. Alcantara composed a magnificent art installation titled "Life is Beautiful" in collaboration with one of the most esteemed names in Paris fashion week: Manish Arora. The Indian designer created a fantasy house that glowed in blue light and conveyed a feeling of happiness and beauty, together with three voluminous handcrafted skirts, showing different interpretations of the avant-garde material and its aesthetic, functional and sensory qualities.
Alcantara wins Beijing. The automotive, hi-tech, fashion and design souls of Alcantara merge each other in a unique combination of style and elegance, creating a highly impacting show.
"Conic-vine", an installation by Nendo is a key feature of the "Alcantara Kaleidoscope" Fuorisalone event. Superstudio Più hosts an original material journey of discovery through Alcantara’s expressive universe.
Italian passion and technology celebrated in a prestigious event which the Italian Embassy in Tokyo hosted.
The Sliding Colors installation and Massimiliano Adami's Alcantara Rolls seating, a hi-tech corner and a show/performance of the Chinese brand Ricostru's collection are all featured in an event at Design Shanghai.
Alcantara is once again the preferred choice of the most prestigious international partners. At the Geneva Motor Show it features in the interiors of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage N430, the Lamborghini Huracan and the McLaren 650S.
