Alcantara® on board the “Costa Concordia”

The Costa Concordia, with its atmosphere of well-being and relaxation, is the largest cruise ship on Italian waters. In fact, it is 290 meters long, 52 meters high, weighs up to 112,000 tons, and has 1500 cabins for a total capacity of 3,700 passengers. The new ship was christened on July 7th in the port of Civitavecchia. The American architect, Joseph Farcus, took his inspiration from the architectural styles of pre-20th century Europe, from gothic Irish to baroque Austrian, even touching on post-modern Italian. The areas open to the public are elegantly decorated with Alcantara®, and are named after different European capitals. As Luigi Foschi (Costa Crociera president) explains, the name of the ship itself, Concordia, was chosen in the hope that mutual feelings of “concordia,” or harmony, will continue to be renewed among European countries. The ship will have thirteen bars, five restaurants, a theater, a 170-meter jogging course, a casino and nightclub, a games room for teenagers, and a children's club with a private pool.
