Alcantara® and BMW Italia: a winning partnership

June 2007In the WTCC championship the BMW 3-series is achieving major successes thanks in no small part to its partners, which include Alcantara®.
Alcantara®, already available in the 3-series M-sport, M5, M6 and 7-series models developed by BMW AG, is now available also on the 3-series – solely for the Italian market – with exclusive upholstery in Alcantara® and Pelle Frau.
The special grip of Alcantara® gives you a white-knuckle driving experience, anchored to your seat just like professional drivers are in fast car racing.
And in the WTCC championship the BMW 3-series is achieving major successes thanks in no small part to its partners, which include Alcantara®. Felix Porteiro has lived up to expectations: after his pole position start on Saturday 16 June, the driver from Spain got his first WTCC win in Race 1 in Brno. Hot on his heels came Jorg Muller in second place, followed by Alessandro Zanardi.
This was a historic result – never before have two drivers from the BMW Italy-Spain Team stood on the WTCC winner’s podium at the same time.
The weekend was wrapped up by Porterio’s taking third place in the second race, featuring an excellent comeback after starting from eighth place, while Zanardi came twentieth, penalised with a 'stop and go' caution due to the fact that the Bologna driver’s BMW 320si was raised off the ground in breach of the rules of parc fermé, without any technical intervention taking place. Despite this setback Zanardi clocked up the fastest lap of the race.
The next stop on the World Touring Car Championship will be at the Portuguese circuit in Porto in three weeks’ time.
