The encounter of the Eastern and Western Art worlds

Curated by Jeon Sung-eon, director of Platform-L, the exhibition is divided into two chapters that welcome visitors to an immersive experience through Eastern and Western art.

The first part showcases a selection of works created by artists who have accompanied the Italian brand on its journey through the world of Art.

For the first time in Korea, Alcantara presents: Extended Indefinitely, the iconic dress by Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen, known for her exaltation of feminine lines and human anatomy, Beyond the Nuclear Garden, the “sensory” chairs by contemporary art studio Zeitguised composed of American sculptor and designer Jamie Raap and German architect Henrik Mauler, and The Future Landscape, the visual installation by Italian artist and director Yuri Ancarani.

Artistic collaboration with Jaden Cho

The second part showcases Alcantara’s collaboration with designer Jaden Cho.

Always fascinated by the study of new materials to express his creative vision, Jaden Cho crafts four dress-sculptures out of Alcantara characterized by bright colours and romantic silhouettes, meticulously hand-sewn and decorated with flower-shaped perforations and geometric figures.

“I am pleased to be collaborating with Alcantara, a world-renowned Italian brand and material that shares the values of craftsmanship and sustainability, issues on which today’s younger generations are focused. From the choice of colours to the creation of the most delicate details, I was able to express my creative vision with a versatility I couldn’t have imagined before coming across Alcantara,” says Jaden Cho.

Andrea Boragno, Chairman of Alcantara, said: “We are very pleased to be able to take part in this cultural co-production with Platform-L, which highlights the meeting of the Eastern and Western Art worlds.

With this exhibition, we hope to become ever closer to the Korean public and art community, to inspire them with the artworks that have made Alcantara’s history, and to go ‘Beyond Boundaries’ by showing the infinite possibilities of our material in adapting to the challenges of creativity with the talented Jaden Cho.”

The “Alcantara: Beyond Boundaries” exhibition is open to the public free of charge from 22 February to 10 March 2024 at the Platform-L Contemporary Art Center in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul.
